On January 10, 2019, Gail Belchior of Money Matters Services & Solutions Inc. presented the Welland Curling Club with a $2,600 cheque to go towards the ‘Buy a Rock’ fundraising campaign.
Gail commented on her participation, “I am so pleased tosupport the fundraising efforts of the curling club. I know first hand how important it is to have good curling stones and ice. Our family have been members here for many years, beginning when our son, Travis Belchior, was a‘Little Rocker’. Curling is such a great Canadian sport for families, children, young adults, couples and individuals. The social and recreational aspects of the game make long winters much more enjoyable. By supporting the ‘Buy a Rock’ program I know that both the curling club and my company will enjoy the benefits of having new rocks withengraved handles for years to come.”
The club currently has members as young as 6 and as old as 92, drawing from all areas across the Niagara Region, mainly from Welland, Fonthill and Port Colborne. There are curlers on the ice every day, both during day time hours as well as evenings. Competitive events for all ages, and fun-filled bonspiels, happen frequently on the weekends from mid-October to mid-April.
